3 – Tamil Music ReviewPosted by Anandhan Subbiah on May 25, 2012 in Featured, Movies, Music • No comments
3 (Tamil: மூன்று, Hindi: तीन) is a 2012 Tamil romantic drama film directed by Aishwarya Dhanush who made her directorial debut with the film. It stars Dhanush, who himself co-produced the film, alongside Shruti Haasan. Soundtrack and background score was composed by debutante music director Anirudh Ravichander while the cinematography was handled by Velraj. Much hype was created about the movie due to the viral marketing of the song “Why This Kolaveri Di”. The film released on 30 March 2012 in its original Tamil version along with a dubbed version in Telugu, to mixed reviews and was an average grosser at the box office. The hindi version is expected to be released soon.
Why this kolaveri di(Dhanush)
This is the song that provided all the mileage that this movie needed in terms of marketing. This is definitely a foot tapping number and Dhanush obviously had had a lot of fun singing it.
Idhazhin Oram (Ajeesh, Anirudh Ravichander)
A beautiful melody sung by the music director himself. The striking simplicity and rich melody ensures that this song will stay in the charts for a bit.
Kannazhaga(Dhanush, Shruthi Hassan)
Dhanush has sung and penned the lyrics for this nice melody. The voices have been highly synthesized but the awesome tune and the impressive music arrangements make it very memorable. Shruthi is also in her elements in this song.
Come On Girls (Anirudh, Nadisha Thomas, Malavika)
This is probably the weakest song of this album and probably the only other fast song in this melody filled soundtrack.
Nee Partha Vizhigal (Vijay Yesudas, Swetha Mohan)
Another wonderful song by the music director. Vijay and Swetha are impressive. The violin is still the instrument of choice for the music director. It is hard to not like this composition.
A Life Full of Love Theme Music (Anirudh)
This is one of the best instrumentals of 2011. I have always been impressed with Illayaraja’s use of Violin but Anirudh comes really close to matching the maestro. Much like the Po Nee Po song this mesmerizing instrumental oozes the pain and the suffering of the protagonist effectively.
The Rhythm of Love Theme Music (Navin Iyer)
Anirudh has definitely shown his ability to arrange the music to very good effect. This theme song is a wonderful example of this talent.
Po Nee Po (Mohit Chauhan, Anirudh)
This is is my favorite song of the album. Anirudh has roped in Mohit from”Rockstar” and the talented singer had made full use of the opportunity. Anirudh has been able to express the anguish and sadness of the lead actor with this clever music arrangements. Mohit could do better by making sure he gets the accent right but it is definitely a great start in the tamil industry.
Theme of 3 (Mandolin Seenu)
This is again a fast piece with wonderful flute interludes to keep the listener entertained. Mandolin Seenu has to be appreciated for this effort.
Po Nee Po – Remix (Sathya Prakash, Haris Swaminathan)
This is a slightly faster version of Po Nee Po. Heavy metal guitars fill up the speakers and this is more of a “angry” version of the original.
Anirudh is one of the most promising music directors of 2012 and this album is a must buy !
