Nanban (Tamil: நண்பன்; English: Friend) is an upcoming Tamil comedy drama film directed by S. Shankar. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Vijay, Jeeva, Srikanth, Ileana D’Cruz, Sathyan and Sathyaraj. The soundtrack and background score is by Harris Jayaraj, working with Shankar for the second time after Anniyan (2005).It is a remake of the 2009 Bollywood blockbuster film 3 Idiots, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which was adapted from the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat. The film will be dubbed into Telugu as Snehitudu. The film is currently in post-production stage, set to release on 12 January 2012.

En Friend Pola (Krish, Suchith Suresan)
Anybody with a decent friends circle will be able to enjoy this song. This is a nice peppy song which praises the virtue of Friendship. I can’t imagine anyone in school or college who have not had some help from thier friends and that is what this song is all about. Typical of Harris he has allowed the lyrics and the singers to dominate by pushing the background score to a minimum.

Heartiley Battery (Hemachandran, Mukesh)
This song sums up the fact that “All is well” with this album from Harris. Hemachandran and Mukesh have put thier best efforts. Harris has used by chosen some interesting sounds and it is only added to the flavor of the song. This is probably the theme song of the movie and Harris has not disappointed. It will be fair to say that the song is definitely as good as the hindi equivalent if not better.

Askku Laska(Vijay Prakash, Chinmayee, Suvi)
The song was already well publicized as the 16 language love song. Vijay Prakash reminds me of a certain singer by the name of Hariharan. Chinmayee is equally awesome. Harris does not deviate from his sporadic usage of words which make no sense but no one is going to complain about this very likable and melodious composition.

Endhan Kan Munney(Aalap Raju)
This is probably one of the best songs of the album. Aalap Raju is emerging as one of the best voices in the industry. The tune is simply awesome and Harris has simply weaved magic with this composition. Aalap Raju has poured his heart and soul into the rendition and the end result is a mesmerizing and breezy song.

Irukkaannaa(Vijay Prakash, Javed Ali, Sunidhi Chauhan)
This song is all about Ileana and in particular her hip. The song is fun and I am sure Vijay will make it work with his amazing dance skills. Sunidhi Chauhan does her bit to make the song more catchier ! .

Nalla Nanban(Ramakrishnan Murthy)
A very impressive song sung by Ramakrishnan. This is a really well composed pathos song with very impressive lyrics by Na Muthukumar. Harris seems to have made the right choice with a carnatic backdrop.

Harris was definitely not at his best with 7 Am Arivu but he has come strong in this album.

Don’t think just Go and Buy the album or download the songs from iTunes !

Osthe (Tamil: ஒஸ்தி; English: Pinnacle) is a 2011 Tamil action film directed by S. Dharani, starring Silambarasan. A remake of the 2010 blockbuster Hindi film Dabangg, directed by Abhinav Singh Kashyap and written by Dileep Shukla, it featured Githan Ramesh, Richa Gangopadhyay, Sonu Sood, reprising his role from the original, Nassar and Revathi in supporting roles. The film released world wide on 8 December 2011. Upon release, the film generally received mixed reviews.

Osthi Maamey(Baba Sehgal, Ranjith, Rahul Nambiar, Naveen Madhav)
A nice Kuthu number penned by Vaali and sung by a lot of singers. I am sure they had a blast singing the song. Thaman has mastered the craft of creating mass numbers. He has a certain elegance to his songs and his mastery over synthesized music allows him to refine the kuthu numbers a bit so everyone can enjoy it.

Unnale Unnale (Thaman S, Rita)
Thaman the singer has a really unique voice and he does justice to this melodious folk song. Simple beats are the order of the day and Thaman’s trademark violin interludes fill the speakers. Rita plays perfect foil to Thaman.

Neduvaali(Rahul Nambiar, Mahathi)
This is probably the best song in the album. This is a highly enjoyable , foot tapping number which is also very melodious. Rahul Nambiar is simply awesome and Mahathi does her bit to perfection as well. There is a clean flow to the song and the background instruments just keep the audience enthralled for the entirety of the song.

Pondatti(Silambarasan)
Now it is Simbu’s turn to come up with some funky lyrics. It is a very simple song and if you are a fan of Simbu’s early compositions this might appeal to you.

Kalasala(Vijaya T Rajendar, L R Easwari)
You may not like T Rajender as he can really drain you with his histrionics but you have to love the songs he has sung for Yuvan or in this case Thaman. He brings a lot of energy. The legendary L R Easwari is an interesting choice for me but her voice definitely adds to the surprise package. Thaman has to be credited for a mass composition and TR for the energy he brings to the table when he sings.

I was really impressed with this album. If you are a fan of fast numbers with delightful tunes then this album is for you !!

Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal (English: Thoughts of You All Day) is an upcoming romantic film directed by Elred Kumar starring Adharvaa and Amala Paul in the lead roles. Music scored by G. V. Prakash Kumar.

Kangal Neeyae (Sithara)
Sithara has a heavy voice and is a unique choice for this song. There is a heavy mix of carnatic and hindustani tunes but the good news is you will be able to enjoy the song !

Mazhai Pozhiyum (Aalap Raju, G. V. Prakash Kumar, Megha)
This is a breezy song sung by the talented Aalap Raju with ample support from G.V Prakash and Megha. There is definitely a nice rhythm with matching guitars which suits the mood of the song. The vocals somehow overwhelm the background score when the exact opposite would have suited this song better.

Oh Sunandha (Raman Mahadevan, Caroline)
The song starts with a Arabic backdrop and slowly transforms into a nice melody. Again the Rhythm is very good and Raman Mahadevan does a admirable job crooning to the beats. Caroline does her part as well and reminds me of Andrea. The music director has definitely worked hard on the orchestration but something seems to be missing in this song, in specific for this genre. I really think the song would have been more interesting if he had chosen more richer instruments.

Oru Murai(G. V. Prakash Kumar, Blaaze, Andrea Jeremiah)
Heavily synthesized music welcomes the audience to this R&B song. Thamari’s lyrics increase the market value for the song. Blaaze makes his presence felt while Andrea seems to be underused for the most part.

Sokku Podi(Baba Sehgal, Shruti Haasan)
This fast paced song has Babha Seghal and Shruthi Hassan crooning to some decent beats. The song is not all that impressive and I am not even sure Shruti was the best fit for this song

Yaar Aval Yaro(Mohammed Irfan)
This is one of the best songs of the album . Mohammed is a interesting choice for the song , he seems to be filling the role of Haricharan does for Yuvan. I can see shades of Oru Kal oru Kannadi in this sing. Even though this may technically be called a rock cum pathos song I was really not thrilled with the constant change in tempo of the song as it is definitely jarring and annoying to say the least. Irfan’s rendition of the song actually makes it one of the best songs of the album.

This is definitely a decent album by the talented music director . I just felt that the background score is not all that smooth and seems jarring at times. The Young composer can definitely working on that aspect of his music. That said the album is still a must buy !

Enna Aachi(Vijay Yesudas, Janaki Iyer)
This is one of the best songs of the album and I will even go one step further and include it in top songs of 2011. Thamari has created amazing lyrics which is not at all surprising. Janaki Iyer has a haunting voice and Vijay Yesudas reminds us again that he is one of the best singers in the tamil music industry. Typically these kind of songs sound better on the screen and I am sure Sameera will scorch the screen but I am not sure I can say the same thing about rugged Vishal. For starters he can probably remove the stupid adjective he uses ! I would buy the album just for this song. Kudos to Vijay Antony for creating a master piece !

Ichu Ichu(Vijay Antony, Sangeetha Rajeshwaran )
This is a fun filled folk song which would have sounded a lot better if not for the lead singer , the music director himself. I can’t imagine any lead actor crooning to Vijay Antony’s voice so it will be fun to watch Vishal dance to this. The rhythm is definitely infectious though !!

Ippadi ( Karthik , Saindhavi)
This song reminds me of an earlier composition from Rahman for the movie Ratchagan. The awesome singer trio of Karthik and Saindhavi elevate the song. Even though this piece won’t blow you away , it is still worth listening to. The music arrangements compliment the song very well.

Kadhalikka (Emcee Jesz, Naresh Iyer, Andrea Jeremiah, Rap Vocals Sharmila )
This is an above average Rap song. The tunes is breezy and the guitar piece is something Vijay can be proud of. Naresh and jeremiah do a great job supporting Emcee.

Bombay Ponnu (Mamta Sharma, MLR. Karthikeyan, Senthildas )
Vijay has managed to rope in Mamta Sharma from the item song in Dabaang. Mamta definitely has a husky voice which goes well with this genre.

This is a very decent album worth listening to. There is nothing outstanding about this album , which might go against the composer.I think it got lost with the big movies from Harris and G.V Prakash.

Mayakkam Enna is an upcoming Tamil romantic drama film directed by Selvaraghavan. It stars his brother Dhanush, along with Richa Gangopadhyay, and features music scored by G. V. Prakash Kumar while the cinematography is handled by Ramji. The film, which is produced and distributed by Gemini Film Circuit, is currently in its production stage and is expected to release in October 2011. The expectations were quite high for this movie.

Ennena Seidhom Ingu(Harish Raghavendra)
This is a surprise package from the young music director. Harish renders this wonderful composition with ease. The tune is actually more devotional than commercial but I don’t think anyone will complain.

Kadhal En Kadhal(Dhanush,Selvargahavan)
This is a a mediocre song at best and credit should be given to G.V Prakash for trying to make this into something meaningful. It will also be fair to say that Dhanush has done a commendable job of what he has been asked to do as a singer.

Mayakkam Enna Theme..(G.V. Prakash)
The true skill of the music director is evident in this theme music. I am sure selvaraghavan must have spent a lot of time with G.V to get this right. The synthesized music in the end is a spoiler but otherwise this theme songs is one of the best songs in the album.

Naan Sonnadhum Mazhaivandhucha… (Naresh Iyer)
G.V Prakash does a Yuvan with a high pitched & breezy tune and Naresh definitely seems to be up for it. The background music could have been streamlined better , something Yuvan has mastered over the years. This song is still one of the better compositions and worth a listen

Pirai Thedum(Saindhavi & GV Prakash)
This is the pick of the album even though it reminds me of the singers hit from his previous album with Vikram. Saindhvai has a beautiful voice and she has delivered a master piece with G.V. Again the background music is still a little too jarring for my comfort and could have been a bit more smooth. Na Muthukumar has produced some wonderful lyrics.

Voda Voda Dhooram Korayala…(Dhanush)
This is another conversational piece and the focus is more on the fun factor than anything else.

This may not be one of the best albums from G.V but as with all Selvaraghavan films the songs typically fits the mood of the movie and this shouldn’t be any different. I think my biggest concern is around the odd lyrics which are more conversational than anything. I guess the team would have been better off if they allowed the professionals lyricists to do thier jobs. Also the music director is known for his subdued and smooth background score which brings the singers to the forefront , but in this album he has definitely tried to change it but I am not convinced that it is a good move. I would still buy the album as it still has all the ingredients to make it big.

Innum Enna Thozha (Balram , Naresh Iyer)
Synthesized music welcomes us to this inspirational song penned by Pa. Vijay. Balram who sung the awesome title song from Mozhi has rendered this song with some help from Naresh. The song is not racy enough , not at least till the end , to be an motivational piece but Balram saves the song with his awesome control and poise. The lyrics are perfect for this genre to say the least.

Mun Adhi(Karthik, Mega)
if you have never listened to Rahman or Harris before then this song might blow your mind away ! That said Karthik is the male version of Shreya Ghosal to me and he just takes the song to the next level. Mega is only used primarily for the humming bit and she has done a commendable job. Harris has this uncanny ability to bring out the best out of the singers and it will be only fair to say that this song is no exception. The singers just seem that much more better in a Harris Jayaraj album.

Note : This song reminds me of Omane Pennae but somehow I like this better.

Oh Ringa Ringa(Roshan, Jerry John,Benny Dayal, Suchithra)
if you like reggaeton music you will probably enjoy this. The main issue is this also reminds me of the Taxi Taxi song by Rahman. The beats are good but other than there is not a lot going on with this song.

The Rise of Damo(Hao Wang)
Just go with Ba Ba Black Sheep and you will settle into this song. That said this is a new experiment in tamil music and Harris has to be given credit for trying this. The end result is appealing.

Yamma Yamma(SPB)
It will be refreshing to hear the veteran singer SPB sing any song ! The singer is in his elements in this simple song. Kabilan’s lyrics add to the simplicity of this song. Harris continues his emphasis on melody as the backdrop for literally any genre.

Yella Lamma(Vijay Prakash, Karthik, Shruthi Haasan, Shalini )
A fast paced song with nice flute interlude in the middle , this song is sung by a talented bunch of singers. I am surprised that Shruthi Hasssan has only featured in this one song. She definitely looks stunning in the promos so it is obvious she was focussed more on being the lead actress. This song is not a game changer but worth listening to !

The album is definitely not mind blowing . Almost all the songs remind me of some previous composition of Harris or Rahman. Harris has to break the barriers and somehow get out of his comfort zone . Somehow I get the feeling that the music director is reluctant to come out of his self enforced shell. The album will satisfy hardcore Harris Jayaraj fans and that’s about it.

All that said the quality of the songs is still pretty high. The negative criticism is purely based on the fact Harris has great potential and can reach greater heights. I am sure this album will be a commercial success and is still worth buying or downloading from Amazon/Itunes.

Mankatha (Tamil: மங்காத்தா) is a 2011 Tamil action thriller film written and directed by Venkat Prabhu. It will feature Ajith Kumar in the lead role, starring in his 50th film, along with an ensemble cast including Arjun, Trisha Krishnan, Vaibhav Reddy, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea Jeremiah, Premji Amaren and Anjali. It was produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri’s Cloud Nine Movies while Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the musical score and soundtrack, with Sakthi Saravanan working as the cinematographer and the duo Praveen K. L. and N. B. Srikanth as editors.

Mankatha’s story is said to revolve around a Mafia gang gambling during the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket season. The film was formally launched in August 2010,[8] with its principal photography beginning on October 25, 2010. Filming was held for more than eight months and took place primarily across Chennai, the Dharavi slum in Mumbai and Bangkok, Thailand.

Vilayadu Mankatha(Anitha, Premgi Amaren, Ranjith, Suchitra, Yuvan Shankar Raja and others)
The title song of the album is peppy and heavy on percussion. It roughly translates to ‘ Are you ready to play the game ? ” Yuvan has succeeded in creating the perfect intro song for the album. Rap interludes make the song that much more interesting. I was extremely impressed with the violin piece. This song was released before the rest of the songs in the album and was a massive hit with the audience

Nee Naan (SP Charan, Bhavatharini)
The only romantic melody in the album , this song has lyrics by Niranjan Bharathi, great grandson of Mahakavi Bharathiar. Yuvan definitely has some affinity towards SP Charan and the versatile singer has not disappointed. Yuvan has used the guitar to good effect , a first for the music director.

Machi Open The Bottle(Haricharan, Mano, Naveen, Premgi Amaran, Tippu)
It is impossible to imagine a Venkat Prabhu movie without a spirited Kuthu Song ! Yuvan has remixed the yesteryear Rajnikanth Hit “Raaman Aandalum ” to good effect. The song does remind us of some of Yuvan’s previous hits but I don’t think it will matter to the audience.

Vaada Bin Laada(Krish, Suchitra)
Vaali is responsible for the lyrics for this youthful song. Only Yuvan can dare to use the Veena for a song like this.Kris and Suchitra do a commendable job. The rhythm , typical of Yuvan’s compositions makes the song mildly likable.

Nanbane(Madhushree, Yuvan Shankar Raja)
Madhsuhree excels in this pathos song. Yuvan has kept the background instruments to a minimum. Yuvan has provided able assistance to Madhu and is voice is typically suited for this genre. Vaali’s lyrics convey the anguish of the characters with ease.

Balle Lakka(Karthik, Vijay Yesudas, Anusha Dhayanidhi)
Anusha Dhayanidhi is the surprise package and she has delivered big time. She definitely has the potential to make it big if she keeps the focus. The song is not bad but does not have a major impact.

Mankatha Theme Music
This theme music is scintillating to say the least. This score would have fit any war movie perfectly and I am sure the decibel level will be high in the movie theater when Ajith starts swaying to these thumping beats. Yuvan has definitely spent a lot of time to get this right and the result is just mind blowing.

This may not be Yuvan’s best music score but it fits the bill perfectly for the movie. The title song and the soft melodies alone will be good enough for me to download the songs from Itunes or Amazon.

Deiva Thirumagan (Tamil: தெய்வத்திருமகன், English: Son of God) is a forthcoming 2011 Indian Tamil drama film written and directed by A. L. Vijay and produced by Mohan Natarajan and a remake of the American film ‘I Am Sam’, a Sean Penn and Dakotta Fanning starrer. The film features Vikram in the lead role as a mentally challenged adult with the maturity of a five-year-old boy, while Anushka Shetty, Amala Paul and Nassar portray other pivotal roles. The film comprises director Vijay’s ‘regular’ technical crew with G. V. Prakash Kumar as music composer, Nirav Shah as cinematographer and Anthony as editor.

The film completed its schedules at a brisk pace and only announced the title of the project at the first press conference in April 2011. The teaser trailer of the project was released at the conference and has won critical acclaim, whilst the film is expected to release on May 13, 2011.

Kadhai Solla Poraen (Vikram, Shringa S)
This is obviously a situation song and will find its audience amongst the kids.

Vizhigalil Oru Vanavil (Saindhavi)
A special song sung by the music directors favorite artist, this wonderful melody is mesmerizing to say the least .Na Muthukumar has penned the lyrics and it only adds more value to this soft and sensual song. It will only be fair to say that Saindhavi’s voice is just about perfect for this haunting piece. It takes a lot of talent to maintain the pace with a slow song like this but Prakash has excelled beyond my expectations with ample support from Saindhavi.

Pa..Pa..Pa (Vikram)
Another situational song which exhibits a lot of happiness and positive energy , this will be a hit with Vikram’s fans.

Vennilave (G V Prakash Kumar)
Even though the song reminds me of the Anbae sivam title song Prakash has made it his own with a wonderful ambiance to the entire song. The husky voice of the music director fits the mood of the song perfectly and this is yet another clean melody in the album.

Jagada Thom(S P Balasubramaniam, Maya, Rajesh)
SPB’s powerful voice is this songs forte. Prakash has used a lot of powerful instruments to reflect the never say die attitude of the lead character in the film.

Aarariro (Haricharan)
This is one the best songs I have heard in a while by a long distance. The song will mean a lot to parents and a lot more to dads with daughters. Haricharan can easily claim that this is one of the best songs he has performed so far. The Flute and the Thabla provide ample support to this wonderful melody which never deviates from the core focus of being simple and strikingly powerful in conveying the emotional binding between a dad and his daughter . I don’t think Na. Muthukumar will ever be able to describe the relationship between a father and daughter any better than he has done with the lyrics of this song. This is one of those rare songs which will easily feature in any playlist without a lot of fuss.

Life is Beautiful
Prakash has used the flute to full effect and the result is pure magic.

Verdict : Another successful album from the young music director. It will be one of the top albums of 2011.

Vaanam (Tamil: வானம்; English: Sky) is a forthcoming Indian Tamil action-drama film written and directed by Krish. A remake of his 2010 Telugu film Vedam, the film will feature an ensemble cast, including Silambarasan, Bharath, Anushka Shetty, Prakash Raj and Saranya. The score and soundtrack of the film are composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, while cinematography and editing are handled by Nirav Shah and Anthony Gonsalves, respectively. Jointly produced by Ganesh Janardhanan and R. Ganesh, Vaanam is currently in its post-production stage and is set to be released by Dayanidhi Azhagiri’s Cloud Nine Movies tentatively on May 06, 2011. The story revolves around five important characters, representing the five natural elements – sky, air, water, fire and earth.

Evandi Unna Pethan (Silambarasan, Yuvan Shankar Raja)
Lyrics: Silambarasan, U1
A fast paced song with some really bad lyrics towards the end , this is still a catchy number. Yuvan has definitely worked really hard to program this song and the rhythm is definitely top notch. The party animals just got a new anthem !

Vaanam (Yuvan Shankar Raja)
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar
This song is the soul of the album. Word is that Yuvan worked really hard on this song and the quality of the song is clear evidence that it has paid off. Yuvan has delivered a stunning performance behind the mike as well. This is the best song of the album by a decent margin.

Cable Raja(Abhishek, Lawrence)
A mass song which will satisfy the fans of Simbu. There is nothing more to the song and it would not make a lot of sense unless you are a fan of the actor.

Who Am I(Benny Dayal)
A rock number with heavy metal guitars and live drums make up this loud number. Benny has sung his heart out but the music definitely eclipses the singer. It looks more like an introductory song for Bharath and is all about about a youngster who is trying to figure out what he wants to do in life.

No Money. No Honey (Silambarasan, Andrea, Srikanth Deva)
The Kuthu song of the album. Andrea steps out of her comfort zone and adds a lot of zeal to the song. Srikanth Deva is also a surprise package. The role of money in our day to day life is the theme of this fast song.

Verdict:A must buy ! Yuvan has definitely worked extremely hard on this versatile album. Go to Itunes and download your favorite songs . Search for “Vaanam”.

Ko’ is an upcoming film directed by KV Anand starring Jeeva, Ajmal , Karthika and Piya Bajpai in lead roles. This the third film directed by KV Anand after ‘Kana Kandein’ and ‘Ayan’.

This film is said to be a political action thriller about the adventures of a photo journalist, played by Jeeva, who finds himself in trouble when investigating a mystery case as a gang of musclemen are after him.

Yester years dream girl Radha’s daughter, Karthika is debuting in Tamil cinema as the heroine opposite Jeeva. Prakash Raj, Ajmal and Piaa are other important actors. Ajmal’s character is also said to have some grey shades and the actor is excited about the challenging role.

Aga Naga(Vijay Prakash, Tippu, Ranina Reddy, Priya Subramani, Solar Sai)
Another hip hop song from the Harris Jayraj stable of music .The song is not bad at all but for some reason it did not catch my imagination. There is a whole bunch of singers which is also typical of Harris. The techno music is commendable. Rumor is that this song will feature a whole bunch of actors including one of my favorites Suriya.

Amali Thumali(Hariharan, Chinmayi)
This is one of the songs which will grow on you. I do have to mention that this is just a rehash of his earlier composition Hasili Fisiliaye. Nevertheless the song is peppy and pleasing to the ear. Hariharan is still young in his rendition and chinmayi provides him with good company.

Ennamo Aedho(Aalaap Raju and Prashanthini)
A slightly refreshing tune follows the rap interludes. The beautiful rhythm which follows is sure to make the song go up the charts. There is a certain cool flavor to the song which definitely makes it more appealing. Aalaap Raju’s voice fits the song perfectly and Prashanthini’s voice is haunting. Sricharan has chipped in with the Rap bits and he has done a commendable job.

Gala Gala(Tippu, Krish, Haricharan and Sayonara Philip)
Another song with a whole bunch of singers. This is another fast and peppy song. Sayanora is back after her stint in Sivaji. The song is passable.

Netri Potil(Naresh Iyer)
This is sort of an anthem song which is actually interesting. Naresh Iyer singes this rock flavored song which is supposed to be an inspiration to the youth of the country and he has done a neat job.

Venpaniye(Bombay Jayashree and Sriram Parthasarathy)
Harris Jayaraj is at his best in this song. Sriram’s soulful voice is the perfect choice for this genre. The music director’s favorite singer Bombay Jayashree mesmerizes the listener with her dusky voice backed up by soothing instrumentals. Pa. Vijay has done what Thamarai usually does for Harris, provide clean and wonderful lyrics. The only issue some might have is that the song reminds us of the music directors early compositions. It is still the best song of the album to me.

The album is definitely not mind blowing but if you are a Harris fan this album is a must buy !
