Engeyum Kaadhal (Tamil: எங்கேயும் காதல்) is an upcoming Tamil romance film written and directed by Prabhu Deva. It stars Jayam Ravi and Hansika Motwani, in her first Tamil film, in the lead. Featuring music by Harris Jayaraj, it is produced by Kalpathi S. Agoram and is currently in its post-production stage.

Bathing at Cannes…(Emcee Jesz, Kash n’ Krissy, Raninia Reddy)
A techno rap song which makes for interesting listening. I am assuming the success of techno music in Enthiran must have had an influence in this song being featured in the album.

Dhimu Dhimu…(Karthik)
A slightly revamped version of Nenjukul Peithdum Poomalai but Karthik is way too good to ignore. Typical Harris guitar interludes with mild and heavy bass beats in the background fill the speakers while Karthik provides the neccessary impetuous.

Engeyum Kadhal(Aalaap Raju Devan, Ranina Reddy)
The title song is also the pick of the album. The song reminds me of June Ponaal but I should admit that it is a slightly better version of the hit song. Harris has this uncanny knack of picking up singers who have a unique voice. His preference towards husky and deep female voices is a well known fact now. Thamarai is as usual brilliant with her lyrics. The lyricist is my favorite now and she will leave a lasting impression with the tamil audience if she focussed all her energy only on writing beautiful lyrics , something she is really good at.

Lolita…(Karthik, Prashanthini)
A regular Harris number made more memorable by Karthik and Prashanthini. There is nothing outstanding about this song but it is hard to dislike it.

Nangaai…(Richard, Rahul Nambiar, Naveen Madava)
Harris will accept that the king of pop was the inspiration behind the song. He has definitely worked hard to Indianize the song.Richard fits the bill perfectly and delivers a neat performance. The song shifts constantly between the traditional fare and western . It is worth a listen !

Nenjil Nenjil(Harish Raghavendra, Chinmayi)
A classical song which has its roots on very serious melody. Harish and Chinmayi are tailor made for this genre. Watch out for the flute and the mridangam interludes. I cannot recall a single song that Harish has sung for Harris which has not made it to the top of the charts. One of the best songs of the album. Switch off the lights and enjoy this piece.

Thee Illai(Naresh Iyer, Mahathi, Gopal Rao)
Another romantic melody . The Violin has been used to hold the song together. Naresh is as usual pleasing to the ear and Mahathi gives him good company. The chorus in the background also fits the bill perfectly.

A must buy if you are a Harris fan !

I ordered Benderball for my wife in January. The product was definitely useful but then the nightmare started. Apparently those morons from Benderball slipped in a notice with my package which enrolled me in a program if I did not cancel it. This is an outrageous practice since I don’t know a lot of people who look at every piece of junk which comes with the products we order. I received another shipment in February and my credit card was charged. I called them up and they explained that I was enrolled in a program since I did not cancel it voluntarily. The only thing I could do was to ship them the package they sent at my own cost. i did not want to waste money so I told them not to ship anything anymore . I was charged again in march as I had to still pay the fee for the complete package that they forced me into. I called those morons again and a stupid lady started yapping that she could not hear me once I told her about the problem. I managed to find someone online and all they could do was reduce 5 $’s . I was forced to pay 42$’s in addition to the 19 dollars which was my original shipment.

The lesson that I learnt was never to give your credit card information to these fraudulent and unethical companies. The customer care folks in these kind of companies are mostly brainless and useless in most aspects that there is no point in talking to them.

Avoid these kind of greedy companies and go run.

The producers of the Australian open on ESPN2 should ask their commentators to shut up. I was watching this really tight match between Federer and the talented Tomas Berdych and ESPN chose to show us a tease of the Australian open right at the beginning of the second set . Just to make things even worse the commentators just wouldn’t stop talking even during intense points. They did not bother to show the reaction of Federer after a tense match and rather chose to show Mary Joe blabbering about something. The layout of the scoreboard is another nightmare to decipher with really odd placings. They have a constant news ticker which is not related to tennis all the time which is extremely distracting to say the least.

Most of the comments were so stupid that I wished that they could just shut up. Pam shriver and Mary Joe in particular are so annoying and irritating and their constant patronizing of American players would make any tennis lover cringe in their seats. I am sure they were talented tennis players of their generation and they know a lot more about tennis than I do but I pay for my cable and i want to watch a tennis match without someone uttering gibberish all the time. Someone should make them listen to themeselves when watching a match they will realize how irrelevant they really are. Either they learn to shut up when the players start playing and focus on the match or We need a invent a new Mute button to shut off commentary !!

Yuvan Shankar Raja is back with this movie featuring Silamabrasan and Sana Khan. This album is a song for the masses and does not really reflect the talent of the young music director.I really believe the actor influences the music director a lot as there is a lot of similarity in the music scores for all of their films together. The first two albums by Yuvan for Silamabrasan were good but it gets a little tiring to keep hearing the same kind of albums and like Obama as the presidential candidate the audience needs a change.

Silambattam ( Shankar Mahadevan)
This is yet another song which is really stupid showering praising on the lead actor and advising the general public. There is no doubt that there is abundant talent in the Tamil film industry but I really hope this nonsense comes to an end. You never see this trend anywhere except in the south and it is very demeaning to the Tamil industry as a whole. That said Yuvan has come up with a familiar but decent composition and the ever reliable Shankar Mahadevan has done a commendable job.

Nalanthana (Silamabrasan, Earl , Suzi Q)
A forgettable song. Yuvan has taken a shot at remixing this very famous yesteryear song and made a real mess of it.

Machan Machan (Illayaraja,Bela Shinde)
This is a impressive song sung by Illayaraja and Bela Shinde. There is a nice melody to the whole song and Bela has given it her best. Illayaraja’s voice is different to say the least. The lyrics are again tasteless for a song with a nice rhythm to it.This is the only decent song in the album.

Vachukava (Silamabrasan, Suchithra)
Another remix of a famous Rajini song. Silamabrasan’s voice does not match the song at all. The orchestration is not up to the mark either . This is not bad remix attempt but the song did not really impress me.

Where is the party ( Mukesh, Priyadarshini)
A horrible song with horrendous lyrics. The only saving grace is the orchestration and a decent tune.

Overall a very disappointing album by Yuvan. He was making waves with Saroja and Aegan but this album is sure to peg him back from the great progress he had made as a music director . Maybe he should stay away from actors who like to promote themselves and work with folks who concentrate on good story lines and quality. It is evident he has compromised quality to satisfy the lead actor and has failed miserably.

Hopefully the movie is not as pathetic as this music album.

The golden combination of Gautham and Harris are back and the album simply rocks. Gautham has always managed to get the best out of Harris and this album is no exception. Harris has still not stepped out of this comfort zone but has managed to innovate within his self imposed boundaries. It will be impossible not to praise Harris for an excellent album. Thamarai has written the lyrics for all the songs except one which is penned by Na. Muthukumar. The strong emphasis on lyrics and melody is the forte of Harris and he has arguably been very much responsible in reinstating melody and emphasis on the vocals back in Tamil music.Harris has relied heavily on the guitar and has made the best use of it in this album

Nearly all the songs are sure to rule the charts for a long time to come.

Adiyae Kolluthey (Krish, Benny Dayal, Shruthi Hassan)
A typical Harris Jeyaraj Song with a heavy metal guitar interlude. Shruthi Hassan is the surprise package . She has a unique voice and that adds an exotic flavor to the song. Krish is another talented new comer and he actually sets the platform for Shruthi to build on. This song is sure to be a rage among the youth audience. The best thing about this piece is my American friend who is a avid heavy metal enthusiast enjoyed the song and wanted to listen to it again even though he did not understand a single word in the lyrics.

Nenjukkul Peidhidum(Hariharan, Devan, V.Prasanna)
A very impressive song sung by the evergreen Hariharan. The lyrics are as usual very prominent. The song has a nice rhythm to it.Hariharan has taken the song to greater depths with his amazing ability to control his rendition even at a high pitch. Make sure you don’t miss the haunting interlude in the middle. This song is sure to be a big hit.

Yethi Yethi (Benny Dayal, Naresh Iyer, Solar Sai)
A fast paced song with an Arabic feel to it. Harris has composed this song for the dance floors and has done a terrific job with the tune and the music arrangements. It is refreshing to see Harris experiment a bit with his arrangements.

Mundhinam (Naresh Iyer, Prashanthini)
The awesome Naresh Iyer gets to sing the best song of the album. Prashanthini , another new comer is another impressive singer and matches Naresh to make this song very memorable. The guitar piece in the background sums up the mood of the song. The lyrics as in any Harris composition take center stage. The music arrangements help this free flowing song to keep the pace. The overall rhythm reminds me of the George Michael hit “Faith” although there is absolutely nothing else is common

Oh! Shanthi Shanthi (Clinton, S.P.B.Charan)
Another impressive song. This sounds like a faster version of Nenjukkul Peidhidum. There is a delightful rhythm to this fast paced but melodious song. Charan reminds us of his illustrious father. Clinton acts as the perfect foil to charan. He gets the chance to hum to the heavy metal guitar and he has done a commendable job.

Ava Enna (Karthik, V.Prasanna)
The Kuthu song of the album.I am really not sure what Harris or Gautham were thinking but this must be to satisfy the masses. It is neither fast or appealing so this must be one of those experiments which failed . This song could still be a hit with the Gana crowd.

Anal Maelae(Sudha Raghunathan)
A slow and melodious song. The music arrangements reminded me of the 80’s in a good way. Sudha has such a terrific control over her voice and she sustains it throughout the song. She is also able to express the anguish and sorrow of the character clearly with her voice. Harris deserves a lot of credit for trusting Sudha to perform with minimal music arrangements.

Buy two copies ! This album is a must have for any avid music lover.

The 2008 men’s Wimbledon’s final was in sharp contrast to the woman’s final. I witnessed one of the best tennis every played on the center court in Wimbledon. Pete Sampras and Agassi produced the same quality of tennis during thier peak.Agassi once mentioned that Pete pushed him to greater heights than he could have ever imagined.I am sure Nadal and Federer can say the same thing about each other.

Nadal was a worthy and humble winner and Federer , the five time champion was gracious in defeat. The match which was the longest match in Wimbledon spanning 5 sets and more than 4 hours and 30 minutes, produced immaculate tennis. The grit and determination showed by both athletes were astounding and the respect that these two champions had for each other was evident in the presentation ceremony.Nadal heaped generous praise on Federer and the 5 time champion acknowledged that Nadal played better than him.

Tennis is one of those rare sports where the focus is still on the game . There are no gimmicks and very rarely do you see idiots on the tennis court. There are still occasions where there is a show of emotion but it is really not as bad as the other mainstream sports. Lately sports has been played for the TV. Right from cricket to football and most American sports you will see a lot of non-sporting behavior on display which gets really irritating after a while. This is not to suggest that we should have robots on the sports arena but the basic attribute of a sportsman is to play the sport within the defined framework and not indulge in theatrics.

This match was a classic example as to why sports can be fascinating when the players give it their best.McEnroe rightly said that this should revive the interest in this great sport irrespective of which country you are from.

Who would have imagined that an Indian crowd would cheer for a Pakistani bowler bowling against an Indian batsman ?. All this hype about the divide based on religion has been proved wrong. Shoaib Akthar is a genuine fast bowler and an exciting cricketer. The support he got from the Kolkata crowd and from his team just goes to prove that the animosity between India and Pakistan is at the higher level and not at the grass roots. Shoaib arrived in India after a very rough month but he excelled in a situation tailor made for him. There was no bad blood as it was evident when Shewag congratulated the Pakistani bowler after the match. The politicians from both countries make really bad decisions when all the people want is a better life and really don’t care about anything else.

The same thing can be said about the war in Iraq . A good majority of the literate Americans want their government to focus on internal issues which are becoming worse and they really don’t want their country to be involved in any war but that means little to the politicians who are in power . The only way for a politician in any country to become popular is by creating a sensation. Anti Indian sentiments can help a Pakistani politician to get into and stay in power. Even in America , Ron Paul the only reasonable Republican candidate was not given any media attention because he is a boring candidate who believes war is a bad idea.

Overall the world will be a much better place if all countries can focus on improving the standard of life and facilities for its citizens. Religion is a good thing as long as it is used for the right reasons. To me if religion can save someones life I would endorse it but if it is used to kill someone I would reject it and call it a weapon of mass destruction. There is always this argument that religion was meant to guide people to do the right thing but that is really not the case as we see with all the conflicts in the world which are primarily to prove that some religion is better than another. Lot of people I know get very emotional and upset when I claim that I don’t approve of religion of any form or kind ( and I don’t even ask them to change thier faith in religion) . I would be more than happy to listen if they tell me how religion has made them a better person or made them do more good than bad. If their faith just helped them feel good about themselves then it is really not all that powerful. Religion was supposed to bring peace and harmony and nothing else. Everybody has a right to believe in a superior power and I have no issues with that but the moment someone believes that they can harm someone else in the name of religion it becomes a problem.

People fight for wealth and fame but they stop once they get there but it is very evident from all these fanatic groups all over the world that religious fundamentalists are a dangerous group who will not stop at anything including their own death . Most of the time is spent in complaining when one religious group complains about another followed by discussions on which one is better . There are millions of people following different religions in this planet . In simpler terms a good majority of people will be wrong if the other majority is to be right. The other important aspect is can we all accept the probability that there is no Allah , no Jesus and no Hindu God but there is one God who is powerful and protects the world and we all have different representations of the same one ? It will be impossible for a Christian to accept Allah and vice versa and there lies the disconnect for me. It is not even the concept of God that is very important but it is the flavor of it. These religions institutions are headed by humans who cannot know more about life than a beggar on the street. They act more like corporates selling their faith than imposing morality and good values. All you hear from them is how their God is better and more powerful and very little on how to lead a good life. History has proved that religion has caused more destruction than good.We either need to work hard on making sure that the religion is used for the right reasons or abolish it and move on.

I believe in Karma and for some it may be the whole concept of God and if that is the case I will accept it. If that also means that you have to be in a holy place to do that good deed I would still embrace it. Let us keep it simple do one good deed every day and ask everyone you meet to do the same. You have to be a good human first and then be religious .
