Delhi-6 is a forthcoming Bollywood film to be directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra that will star Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni, and Divya Dutta.[1] The movie is reportedly based on Mehra’s growing up years in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi. The film will be Mehra’s third directorial venture after critically acclaimed Aks and the immensely successful Rang De Basanti, which was India’s official entry to the Oscars.

A.R Rehman’s magical run continues. The genius from south India has been nominated for two categories in the Oscar’s. I am sure the whole of India and all his fans will be hoping that he wins both !.Prasoon Joshi is the lyricist and it is fair to say that he has done an amazing job.

Dil Gira Dafatan(Ash King,Chinmayee)
A beautiful melody with very slight instrumentation. Ash King sounds very similar to Naresh Iyer. Chinmayee provides ample support. The guitar in the background is pure magic. If you are a fan of soft melody this song will top your list.

Aarti… (Tumre bhavan mein)
A devotional song again with very minimal instrumentation.

Delhi 6 (Blaaze, Benny Dayal, Vivinenne Pocha, Tanvi, Claire)
A cool funky song much in line with the Paatashaala song from Rang De Basanti. The metal guitar in the background is fascinating. The theme of the song is more suited for the young generation and is sure to be a big hit of 2009.

Arziyan (Jaaved Ali,Kailash Kher)
Another Kwaja Kwaja. You don’t have to be a Muslim to enjoy this song. I am an atheist but I am blown away by every one of Rehman’s devotional sufi creations. All you have to do is imagine that you are reaching out to the power you believe in which no one has ever seen, could be your inner strength or some sort of energy and this song will make a lot of sense. I tend to think about my daughter and hope that she has a happy life and this song is more appealing than ever.Jaaved Ali and kailash convey the right emotions needed for this type of song.

Hey Kaala Bandar (Karthik, Naresh, Srinivas, Bony Chakravarthy)
The song starts with an Arabic interlude and transforms into a cool rap song. This nice rhythmic song has Rehman written all over it.

Masakali(Mohit Chouhan)
The pick of the album has been featured in all promos. Mohit has done a fabulous job. The control he has over his voice is evident in the way he is able to sing. Rehman’s tune is simple and yet has the right feel to mesmerize the audience.

Rehna Tu( Rehman,Benny Dayal, Chinmayee)
Another pop melody sung by Rehman himself with Benny and Chinmayee as the support cast. With gentle guitar interludes the song has an exotic feeling to it. Look for the sudden change in pitches and you can only marvel at the talent of the composer.

Genda phool(Rekha Bharadwaj, Shraddha Pandit, Sujata Majumdar)
A rustic village song reminds me of the song from Alaipayuthae. The surprise element is the amazing usage of western beats , a pure masterpiece.

Bhor bhaye(Shreya Ghosal, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Gujri Todi )
A hindustani classic sung by my favorite singer Shreya Ghosal. Even though I could not appreciate the song , I was able to enjoy Shreya in a different light . The singer as usual is very confident and is able to match the legendary Ustad.

Noor ( Amithab Bachan)
This is just a bit piece where Mr Bachan talks about Mr God.

This is a perfect soundtrack. Rehman is taking Indian music to great levels and is leagues ahead of his contemporaries and an artist that transcends global boundaries. Rehman has injected the sounds of this 10-tracked album with an electric fusion of various genres.Hopefully the rest of the composers can catch up.
