Kuselan

G.V Prakash , the young music director has got the biggest opportunity of his really short but successful career. It is not an easy task to be the music director of one of Indian cinemas most popular actor. It will be extremely unfair to compare the music of Sivaji with Kuselan. Rehman is one reason not to make that comparison but there is also Shankar. I am sure there must have been a nice feedback loop between Rehman and Shankar to enhance each and every song. I don’t think Prakash had the same quality crew as Sivaji but the young man has tried his best in the unenviable task of scoring the music for a Rajinikanth movie after the magnum opus hit Sivaji.

Chaaral (Shreya Ghosal)
My favorite singer has delivered yet another impressive performance even though this is an average song which passes muster. The orchestration and Shreya’s voice are the only saving grace for this song. It is definitely not a bad song but if this were not to be a Rajini movie this song would have gone unnoticed.

Cinema Cinema ( Shankar Mahadevan)
A mass song and Shankar is the best choice without a hinge of doubt. The song is a typical Rajini song patronizing the hero to the maximum extent possible. G.V Prakash has tried his best to influence the song with the quality of music he is used to and has succeeded reasonably with his attempt. There is a nice Violin interlude in the middle .I know there are lot of people who still don’t understand why Rajini has a phenomenal following considering the fact that he is neither extremely talented as a Sivaji or a Kamal Hassan but I guess that what makes him a legend in his own right . There is always a lot of criticism on how Rajini looks and that he is not a terrific actor . But it will be very difficult for anyone to emulate the success that he has achieved considering the fact that he was a bus conductor with no support when he ventured into films. His ability to appeal to the ordinary man is an achievement which may never be surpassed. Rajini’s story has been a classic fairy tale and he continues to live it. Rajini’s fans will go crazy over this song.

Om Zarare (Daler Mehdni , Sadhana Sargam , Chithra)
Another song patronizing RajiniKanth. This is a nice peppy song with decent rhythmical beats. Daler has joined the list of non-Tamil singers who I believe are on a crusade to kill Tamil. Daler still has that magnetic voice which has won him a huge fan following but his rendition of Tamil makes a mockery of his talent. Sadhana is as usual impressive.

Perinba (Kailash Kher , Prassana)
This is the third song in a row praising the Hero. I do like Rajini but an overdose of anything is never a good thing .Normally these kinds of songs do not gain this much importance but in this movie since Rajini plays himself the patronizing gets a little silly. Kailash seems to be tailor made for this song along with Prassana. The song is actually not that bad and has a very catchy tune. Rajinikanth is a very good human being and a terrific actor when given the opportunity but I don’t think he is any of all the things that this song seems to suggest.

Sollama ( Hariharan,Sujatha)
Finally some sanity prevails with this melodious song. Hariharan and Sujatha deliver this simple song very sincerely which makes for good listening. But I believe that Prakash has failed to use this terrific opportunity to stamp his authority with this song. You can find the music director in the short but impressive piano interlude. It could be that he did not have time or he simply wanted to play it safe. In either case this is the best song in the album if you are interested in quality music and not Rajini the actor.

G.V Prakash has tried his best to satisfy Rajini’s fans and in the process has tried something very different than he is used to. The focus of all his previous albums was to produce quality music but with this album he has had only focus “Rajini” .

It is a good album if you evaulate G.V Prakash as a music director. It is an awesome album if you are a Rajini fan.

  1. This is a very average album. It is crazy that song writers have to butter-up Rajini so much. They should stop doing this. Rajini is a good man with an average talent. He doesn’t need so much praise as written in the songs of this movie. It is too much showing-off in every one of his movies using such songs and punch dialogs. It gets boring after a while.

  2. It is time that the Tamil heroes stop singing their own praises with self-obsession. And three songs in one movie trumpeting about the hero is too much. It is silly that many Tamil heroes are competing to see who is capable of fooling the common public better than the other one. It is better for these actors to focus on displaying their talent through character roles rather than such silly songs to display their big ego.

  3. Just 2 songs (Chaaral and Om Zaare) are good. “Perinba” song reminds us of “veyilodu uravaadi” song from veyil which happens to be GV’s first film. My feeling about this album is just average..

  4. Album is below average anand.

GVP has tried his best. But not upto the marks. Composer cannot be blamed for this.

I hated all the songs at the start, but now started liking Cinema and Zarare to some extent.

  5. kuselan songs rocks. much better than sivaji kuppai songs.

  6. I feel that u r a jingchak to ARR ,With three big name AVM,SHANKAR & ARR audio was sold for 1.25cr but GV’s album sold for 2.5cr & he proved that within 24hrs the audio sales has crossed 2lacs,you
name has to changed as JINGCHAK
