Modhi Vilayadu is a Tamil language film set to be released in 2009. It stars Vinay Rai and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles. The film has music of Hariharan – Leslie for the first time in Tamil.
Latcham Varthaigal (Ranjani)
A terrific start to the album. The heavy dusky voice of Ranjani suits the mood of the song. The song is peppy and racy at the same time. Ranjani seems to be a great find and I am convinced that we will see more of this talented singer.
Modhi Vilayaadu (Deva, Hariharan)
The beats are new. Deva is the surprise package. I am not a big fan of the veteran music director but Deva has done what is expected of him. The tune is very original and the rhythmic beats in the background add a Jamaican flavor to the song.
Ottrai Vaarthayil(Shaan)
The Male version of the Latcham Varthaigal song. Shaan is one of my favorite Indian singers but he has not able to produce his usual magic as it is obious his hold of Tamil is not even close to perfect. Shaan stills makes up with his amazing vocals as the song is definitely pleasing to the ear.
Paathi Kadhal (Sunitha Sarathi, Bombay Jayashree)
A typical colonial cousin song . A terrific song sung by singers with widely different vocals . This is definitely a new experiment. The result is an awesome song and is easily the best song of the album to me. Sunitha provides the western touch to it and Jayashree with her heavy voice provides the Carnatic flavor.
Sikki Mukki (Surmukhi, Leslie Lewis)
This is Leslie’s first song in Tamil and he has done a commendable job song.Surmukhi provides ample support to this nice rhythmic song.
Vellaikaari (Hariharan, Leslie Lewis & Achu)
A terrific song in the jazz genre. Hariharan teaches a lesson or two with his flawless rendition of the song. The music arrangements remind me of some songs of the great Michael Jackson but there is enough originality to help me think beyond that and enjoy this energetic song.
It is nice to see the Colonial cousins creating music in Tamil . This will raise the bar for the rest of the equally talented music directors in the Tamil Industry. The talented bunch of music directors are taking the Tamil Music Industry to new heights which is good news for any music lover.
A terrific album.
