Raavanan (Tamil: ராவணன், English: Ravana) is a 2010 Tamil film written, produced and directed by Mani Ratnam. The film stars Vikram in the title role, with Aishwarya Rai and Prithviraj essaying the other leading roles as well as consisting of a strong supporting cast led by Karthik, Prabhu and Priyamani. Featuring dialagoues from Suhasini, music from A. R. Rehman, editing from Sreekar Prasad and cinematography shared by Santosh Sivan and V. Manikandan, the film was also made simultaneously in Hindi as Raavan, with a slightly different cast.
Veera(Vijay Prakash, Keerthi Sagathia, Mustafa Kutoane)
African drums are predominant in this fast and pacy song. Rehman had to adjust to the three diffrent versions of the film so instead of going really native to a certain state he has chosen an African backdrop which would then introduce the tribal flavor to the song. Overall this is an impressive song.
Usure Pogudhey(Karthik)
The pick of the album with heart wrenching lyrics. Karthik has sung his heart out for this song and the effort shows in the end result. Karthik has been able to infuse the pathos and uncertainty which is most likely the scenario as envisioned by the film director.
Kodu Poatta(Benny Dayal)
This is a rather weird song with exciting lyrics. The best thing about the song is Benny Dayal and the energy he brings to the table. The Heavy metal interludes in the middle are very effective.
Kalvare…(Shreya Goshal)
A wonderful song sung by the extremely talented Shreya Ghosal.Naveen is probably the best flute artist in the country and he proves his mettle here. There is a nice hindustani mix with the Thabla being used predominantly. Shreya’s sensual voice fits the bill perfectly and creates an exotic feel to this exquisite song.
Kaattu Sirukki(Shankar Mahadevan, Anuradha Sriram)
Anuradh Sriram steals the show from Shankar Mahadevan in this raunchy song. This is a a typical Rehman folk special with a lot of fizz and full throated vocals. The song has an earthy aroma to it which makes it very appealing.
Kedakkari…(Benny Dayal, Bhagyaraj, Rayhanah, Tanvi Shah)
A wedding celebration song. It is obvious the singers had a lot of fun with this song. I wouldn’t be surprised if Benny Dayal was jumping up and down when he as singing this song. Loud music is the order of the day and the Nadeshwaram and shehnai are the instruments of choice for the music director.
The magic duo of Manirathnam and Rehman cannot go wrong.
