Sakarakatti – Music Review

After a brief break Rehman is back with Sakarakatti. Valee, Muthukumar and Vijay have written the lyrics for this movie. Rehman has performed this score after two very successful films in Hindi. There are 6 songs in this movie.
Taxi Taxi (Benny Dayal, Blaaze, Viviane Chaix and Javed Ali)
A fast paced number. Benny Dayal is soon becoming a routine in Rehman’s albums . Blazee as usual does his rap bit to perfection. The surprise package is Javed Ali. Javed was able to create magic in Rehman’s recent Hindi albums but we have to wait and see if he becomes a hit in Tamilnadu. It looks like Rehman was influenced heavily by the song Rompe sung by the Spanish singer Daddy Yankee . Even though has not copied the song bluntly this is the first time I have seen the a lot of similarity between the maestro’s song and a major chart buster from the west.
You can listen to song Here
Marudani (Madhushree, A R Rehman, Henry)
The best song of the album. Madhusree is amazing. She has a voice which reminds me of my favorite singer Shreya Ghosal. There is a very good chance to mistake her voice for Shreya if you don’t look at the cd cover. The song has a wonderful tune packed with wonderful lyrics and the typical hymn in the background used by Rehman adds to the ambience. The song is free flowing and is sure to top the charts. Rehman does not provide a lot of support on the vocal side but packs the punch on the creative side. There is ample scope to perform magic on the screen . Hopefully the choreographer has utilized the opportunity effectively.
You can listen to the song Here
I miss you da (Chinmayi, Indai Haza)
A rhythmic song with very interesting orchestration. Chinmayi tries her best to create an impression but the song does not provide her a lot of depth to express her talent. The orchestration stands out but the song is forgettable.
Chinnama(Benny Dayal, Chinmayi)
This is the Tamil version of the Hindi song with the same name. Rehman has changed the orchestration to be more western even though the folk beats appear at regular intervals throughout the song. Benny Dayal has tried his hand with a fast paced song after the slow songs in Subramanyapuram. Chinmayi does a fabulous job as well. I liked the Hindi version better.
Elai(Krish ,Naresh Iyer)
Rehman is back with his magic guitar ! . The orchestration is very interesting . The flute and the violin have been used very effectively . There is a country feel to the song . The violin piece reminds me of Vanessa me and Bond. This is a light hearted song is very similar to Roobaro from Rang De Basanti and will be be a big hit with youngsters.
Naan Epoudhu(Reena Bharadwaj)
Another slow song sung by Reena Bharadwaj. This is also a copy of a song from the Hindi movie Meenaxi. Reena has sung the song to the best of her abilities but like the previous remake I liked the Hindi version better.
The songs did not appeal to me like Ada or Jaane Tu but the quality of Rehman is always a very influential factor .
I would buy this album.

make up your own mind about the Taxi song
I agree. The song has been copied. Starting with the humming piece and the beats, pace, rhythm sound very similar!!!
Anandhan. There’s a reason why the beats are the same in Taxi Taxi (not I am not using the word COPY), because it is the same GENRE as Rompe, called Reggaeton. Google it or look for some reggaeton music on Youtube (Gasolina etc).. the beats will, obviously, be the same. Compare it to a Waltz for a Romance.. that also has “the same beat” as Strauss’ Blue Danube but that’s not a lift is it. Need to do your homework before you review any music, pal.
Hey there, nice review… on the Taxi song, i cant view the link coz its not available in my country…… so cant comment…
as for Maruthani, Madhushree sounds like Shreya Ghoshal in this song??? this is something rare to say, ive come accross people saying Madhushree sounds like Sadhana Sargam and by far they say she sounds like Alka Yagnik. But Shreya Ghoshal??????
oh well, opinion differs… but 1 thing for sure, Maruthani song is a blast!!!
D : There is a lot of similarity in the tunes particularly with the part that includes vivian.so I was more inclined to use the word “Copy”. I agree that the beats for most of the songs of the same genre will be the same. I did not know about Reggaeton so thanks for the info.
Hi
G’night
all are superb songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey guys n gals…
dont say it is copied….
think b4 u speak…. can we compose something like this or better than this?
lets learn to appreciate and not come up with unhealthy criticism!
lets be happy with what we got and try to do something to get better results next time.
Even Rahman, might have recognised the fact that he could have done better.
we hardly spend 6 or 7 mins listening to this song but think of the hardwork and presence of mind behind a composition…
its a blessing dear ones…
Love you all…
The Songs are Fabulous and awesome,, Rahman is BACK !!!!
The Song Taxi Taxi is said to be copy by several peoples but the fact is that the Tune is original and the beats pitch and logic tunning is entirely different from normal reggaeton beats, only the Na Na and Chaix recitation is similar..
Marudhani is really Fantastic ,,
ARR is really a LEGEND !!!!!
