Saroja

Yuvan Shankar Raja is known for his peppy beats and high pitch vocals. Saroja is no different. This is one of the much anticipated music releases of 2008 as the music of Chennai 600028 was a roaring success.

Dosth Bada Dosth (Haricharan, Naveen, Rahul Nambiar )
Haricharan leads this talented bunch of singers to sing this peppy and rhythmic song about friendship. The music arrangements remind me of the popular Brit group Pet Shop Boys. There is the usual bass guitar interlude which is typical of Yuvan. This is the best song of the album by a long distance and there is a definite possibility that it might climb up the charts in the coming weeks.
You can listen to the song Here

Kodana Kodi (Mohammad Aslam, Ranina, Kavi)
The Kuthu song of the album. The song has an Arabic taste to it and is very similar to the Sei song from Billa. The music arrangement is very interesting and the hymn bit adds flavor to the song. Overall this is an average song made interesting by Yuvan’s skill in mixing. You can listen to the song Here

Nimirindhu Nil (Shankar Mahadevan)
This must be the title song of the movie. The lyrics are very good and Shankar Mahadevan is able to provide the energy required to infuse the right spirit to the song. The song will definitely grow on you.

Aaja Meri Soniye (Vijay Jesudas, S.P.B.Charan, Prem G Amaran)
A typical wedding song. The song is pleasing to the ear but does not really stand apart.

Cheeky Cheeky (Yuvanshankar Raja, Matilda, Nirdhiya)
This is a very interesting song. If you are are not careful you might end up thinking it is a English song. I am not sure how the audience is going to react to this kind of music . If you are fed on a steady diet of MTV this song might appeal to you.

My Life (Tanvi)
This is a complete English song.Yuvan has tried his luck with heavy metal . He must be appreciated for this effort even though one might question the arrangements. Hardcore heavy metal fans might not be thrilled but for others this might be a unique experience.

The album does not live up to the expectation but it is definitely worth listening.

  1. IMO, the album is really cool. Very stylish, trendy and innovative. An excellent album.
I agree that the songs may not go well with masses. But kodana kodi and dosthu would surely be chartbusters!!!
