Delhi-6 is a forthcoming Bollywood film to be directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra that will star Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni, and Divya Dutta.[1] The movie is reportedly based on Mehra’s growing up years in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi. The film will be Mehra’s third directorial venture after critically acclaimed Aks and the immensely successful Rang De Basanti, which was India’s official entry to the Oscars.

A.R Rehman’s magical run continues. The genius from south India has been nominated for two categories in the Oscar’s. I am sure the whole of India and all his fans will be hoping that he wins both !.Prasoon Joshi is the lyricist and it is fair to say that he has done an amazing job.

Dil Gira Dafatan(Ash King,Chinmayee)
A beautiful melody with very slight instrumentation. Ash King sounds very similar to Naresh Iyer. Chinmayee provides ample support. The guitar in the background is pure magic. If you are a fan of soft melody this song will top your list.

Aarti… (Tumre bhavan mein)
A devotional song again with very minimal instrumentation.

Delhi 6 (Blaaze, Benny Dayal, Vivinenne Pocha, Tanvi, Claire)
A cool funky song much in line with the Paatashaala song from Rang De Basanti. The metal guitar in the background is fascinating. The theme of the song is more suited for the young generation and is sure to be a big hit of 2009.

Arziyan (Jaaved Ali,Kailash Kher)
Another Kwaja Kwaja. You don’t have to be a Muslim to enjoy this song. I am an atheist but I am blown away by every one of Rehman’s devotional sufi creations. All you have to do is imagine that you are reaching out to the power you believe in which no one has ever seen, could be your inner strength or some sort of energy and this song will make a lot of sense. I tend to think about my daughter and hope that she has a happy life and this song is more appealing than ever.Jaaved Ali and kailash convey the right emotions needed for this type of song.

Hey Kaala Bandar (Karthik, Naresh, Srinivas, Bony Chakravarthy)
The song starts with an Arabic interlude and transforms into a cool rap song. This nice rhythmic song has Rehman written all over it.

Masakali(Mohit Chouhan)
The pick of the album has been featured in all promos. Mohit has done a fabulous job. The control he has over his voice is evident in the way he is able to sing. Rehman’s tune is simple and yet has the right feel to mesmerize the audience.

Rehna Tu( Rehman,Benny Dayal, Chinmayee)
Another pop melody sung by Rehman himself with Benny and Chinmayee as the support cast. With gentle guitar interludes the song has an exotic feeling to it. Look for the sudden change in pitches and you can only marvel at the talent of the composer.

Genda phool(Rekha Bharadwaj, Shraddha Pandit, Sujata Majumdar)
A rustic village song reminds me of the song from Alaipayuthae. The surprise element is the amazing usage of western beats , a pure masterpiece.

Bhor bhaye(Shreya Ghosal, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Gujri Todi )
A hindustani classic sung by my favorite singer Shreya Ghosal. Even though I could not appreciate the song , I was able to enjoy Shreya in a different light . The singer as usual is very confident and is able to match the legendary Ustad.

Noor ( Amithab Bachan)
This is just a bit piece where Mr Bachan talks about Mr God.

This is a perfect soundtrack. Rehman is taking Indian music to great levels and is leagues ahead of his contemporaries and an artist that transcends global boundaries. Rehman has injected the sounds of this 10-tracked album with an electric fusion of various genres.Hopefully the rest of the composers can catch up.

The original Tamil version of the movie was a blockbuster hit and the songs composed by Harris Jayaraj were good but not mind blowing in anyway. Aamir and Rehman are back together in this Hindi remake.

Guzarish(Javed Ali)
Javed Ali seems to be the next Hariharan for Rehman. He is featured in every other album. The singer is absolutely terrific and sings his heart out in this song. The song is already making waves in the promos.

Bekha(Karthik)
Karthik is a surprise choice for this peppy song. Karthik is famous in the Tamil industry but he is new in Hindi cinema. It will be fair to say he has done a commendable job. Rehman as usual has experimented with instrumentation. There is a passage in the song influenced by punk rock. Overall it is a good song.

Latoo(Shreya Ghosal)
It has been a while since I’ve heard Shreya Ghosal in a fast paced song . My favorite singer has proved that she is very comfortable with fast songs as well. The song starts off at a brisk pace and slowly moves into Spanish territory. Rehman is the king of these kind of masterful compositions and he has proved yet again that he is the best.

Kaise Muje(Benny Dayal , Shreya Ghosal)
I thought I was listening to Yuvvaraj for a bit. This is an excellent song sung by the talented Benny and Shreya. The song is high pitched from the beginning to end and the controlled rendition by both singers makes this decent melody sound awesome. Rehman as usual pitches in with the right mix to keep the audience entertained. I would assume that this is the main song for Aamir and Asin. This is the best song of the album if you don’t compare it with “Dil Ka Rishta” from Yuuvraj.

Kaise Muje(Instrumental)
The slow and instrumental version of the previous song. The piano is mesmerizing as with any Rehman composition. This must be the sad version of the duet after the tragedy

Aye Bachu(Suzanne)
I have heard this song before but it does not really matter as this song is awesome.Suzanne rocks with her amazing vocals with the rhythmic heavy metal piece giving her company. A full throated rendition is the order of the day and Suzanne fits the bill perfectly.

Overall this is a refreshing problem and worth the buy. Rehman’s song will grow on you and I am already impressed so I am hopeful these songs will be chart busters depending on the movie goes.

very good start for Murugdoss in Hindi atleast on the music front. We will have to wait for the movie but if it is anywhere closer to the Tamil version it is sure to be a big hit.

Subash Ghai , Gulzar and Rehman are back after Taal and the expectations are naturally very high. Rehman has also been in very good touch with blockbuster hits to his credit in both Hindi and Tamil.

Subash Ghai , Gulzar and Rehman are back after Taal and the expectations are naturally very high. Rehman has also been in very good touch with blockbuster hits to his credit in both Hindi and Tamil.

Main Hoon Yuuvraj (Salman Khan)
It is just an introductory song with no value. I have no idea why this bit was included in the album.

Tu Meri Dost Mein (Benny Dayal , Shreya Ghosal and Rehman)
A wonderful song about friendship , this piece is a haunting melody. A typical Rehman song with a emphatic violin presence , this song is sung beautifully by Benny Dayal and my favorite singer Shreya Ghosal. Benny has done a commendable job and is sure to go places with this album. Shreya is as usual awesome.Rehman chimes in as well. The orchestration reminds me of Rehman from his Rangeela days. This is the best song of the album.

Tu Muskara (Alka Yagnik , Javed Ali)
Another impressive and haunting melody, this song is sung by Alka Yagnik and Javed Ali. Javed Ali is becoming a permanent fixture in Rehman’s albums like Naresh Iyer. I am not really sure that Javed was the perfect choice for this song but Alka does a neat job. There is a Spanish guitar bit in the middle which refers back to the previous song.

Mastam Mastam (Sonu Nigam , Alka Yagnik,Naresh and Benny)
This is a peppy song . Sonu Nigam has sung the song with his own unique style. Sonu is heavily influenced by Mohmmaed Rafi and it shows very clearly in his every attempt. The tune is not conventional by any standards and is sure to raise a few eyebrows. Rehman is the king of these kind of tunes which are completely unpredictable.

Shanoo Shanoo (Sonu , Srinivas , Karthik , Timmy, Sunaina, Vivienne,Tina)
A fast paced song sung by a lot of singers. The song is good in bits and pieces but did not really impress me all that much.

Zindagi (Srinivas)
Srinivas is a popular singer in the south . The singer has enough talent to be the best in the business. This song fits Srinivas to perfection. This is a simple song with very little orchestration . Watch the opera piece in the middle and how Rehman has fused it into the song.

Dil Ka Rishta(Sonu Nigam , Roopkumar Rathod , Rehman)
The song starts off with a simple piano interlude. There is heavy orchestration to convey a very dramatic event in the movie. The overall ambiance of the song takes us back to the days when Boyzone and Backstreet Boys ruled the chart. The song did not really impress me a lot but it is still an interesting experiment.

Manmohini Morey ( Vijay Prakash)
Vijay is an interesting choice for this song. This song is a fast paced Piano driven Ghazal and is another unique composition of Rehman.Vijay sounds like Hariharan but his voice lacks the awesome tone which is the primary reason for Hariharan’s seamless transition into film music.

Shanno – Remix (featuring Ember)
The remix adds a Hip Hop flavor to the song and is much better than the original which is a little flat for a fast song.

This is not a mind blowing album by Rehman but originality and versatility is the key. Pritam is ruling the charts lately but he is a good music arranger and lacks originality even in its smallest form . Unlike copycats from yesteryear’s Pritam copies from anywhere and anywhere, including Korean soaps.Vishal-Shekhar and Rehman in my opinion are the very few music directors in Hindi Cinema capable of delivering albums with a western Theme. Shankar and his group are another talented bunch who rely heavily on melody.

Not awesome but good enough . This album is worth buying as Rehman’s albums will grow on you.
