Vidyasagar has improved immensely as a music director over the years. He has gained in confidence after doing the music scores for Kamal and Rajini. This is the second movie for Vinay after the hugely successful “Unnale Unnale “. The music is enjoyable to say the least. This album is in sharp contrast to Kuruvi as there is more emphasis on melody.

Adai Mazhai Kaalam (Karthik)
The best song in the album in my opinion. Karthik does a brilliant job even though this song is precisely in his comfort zone. Vidyasagar enhances the songs with excellent touches with the violin. The lyrics are very simple and convey the mood of the song effectively. This song should be about the homecoming of the hero after a long time.

Adhai Koodava (Sriram Parthasarathy)
Another excellent melody from the music director. Sriram is one of the most underrated singers in the tamil music industry. He has a very soothing voice as it is evident from this performance. The mood of the song is very similar to the previous song except it is more specific and is only about the heroine.

Naan Marainthu (Hariharan and Madhusree)
Hariharan and Madhusree sing this duet . The song is very melodious and has the typical orchestration that Vidyasagar is very famous for.

Oru Or Naal (Benny)
The title song sung by the newcomer Benny. Benny impressed me with his performance in Subramnyapuram. This is a slightly faster song with some funky lyrics in the middle but Benny is up to the task and does what is expected of him.

Sutrivarum (Sadhana Sargam)
The song has a nice rhythm to it and Sadhana as usual excels with her peppy voice. This song is also slightly on the faster side. There is a nice bass guitar which provides the rhythm to the song. I would consider this to be the second best song in this album

Ullasa Ulagam (Tippu)
This is a remix of a popular hit from the 80’s. Vidyasagar has tried his best to preserve the originality of the song and he has succeeded for the most part. Tippu does a decent job as one might expect from him.

Overall this is a good album but it won’t blow you away.

I never realized that James Vasanthan had this much potential as a music director. He has really impressed in his music debut on the big screen much like Joshua Sridhar did with Kadhal. He needs to improve his music arrangements so his songs sound more appealing. He has found the right mix for the slow songs but he has long way to go before he can belt out fast western songs.Ranjit Barot is a master of music arrangements and James can use his help.

Kadhal Siluvaiyil (Shankar Mahadevan)

This is a song about the pain of failing in love. Shankar Mahadevan controls the song all the way through and has done a wonderful job . It is sad that this versatile singer is not getting enough opportunities to sing melodious numbers in the south. The music arrangements really did not impress me that much but the music director has definitely made it up with a nice melodious tune.

Theme

Not everyone can be a master of theme scores like Rehman and it is very evident from this song.

Kangal Irandaal (Belly Raj, Deepa Miriam)

The best song of the album. This song is very melodious and there is a lot of emphasis on the singers than the background score. It reminds one of Harris Jeyaraj but it should not affect the audience that much as it is a very beautiful song with excellent lyrics by Thamarai. Again the background orchestration did not impress me . Belly has an excellent voice and Deepa has supported him very well.

Madura Kulunga (Velmurugan, Suchitra, Madurai Banumathi & group)

A racy rural song and James has got it spot on with this nice and fast song . I enjoyed it as it was well within the framework of a good song.

Theneeril Snehitham (Benny Dayal)

This is an average peppy song .It reminds me of a song from Love Birds.I was looking for the next button.

This is an excellent debut from James and I would recommend that you buy the Audio CD.

You can listen to some of the songs at Assorted Tamil Music
