Vinnai

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya (English: Will You Cross The Skies For Me?) is a forthcoming Tamil romance film written and directed by Gautham Menon, starring Silambarasan Rajendar and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles. The film, which has music scored by Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman, teaming up with both Gautham Menon and Silambarasan for the first time, is scheduled to release on 12 February 2010, coinciding with Valentine’s Day. This is Rahman’s first Tamil composition after wining the Oscar. This is also the first time Gautham Menon is working with Rahman. It would be fair to say this was the most anticipated album of the year.I am convinced that this is the first time Simbu would have acted for real to suit the character in the movie without any fancy tricks. Hopefully this will move his career in the right direction.

Thamarai has done what Vairamuthu did for Rahman in his initial years. The lyrics are very impressive.

Omana Penne(Benny Dayal, Kalyani Menon)
A beautiful Rhythmic song sung by Benny Dayal and Kalyani. The soft music along with the mesmerizing native percussion’s elevates this song to one of the best in the album. The lyrics are perfect for the situation. Benny Dayal thrives on these kind of songs and he has done a commendable job behind the mike. The rhythm arrangements really do the trick.

Anbil Avan (Devan Ekambaram, Chinmayi)
A easy number sung by the talented Devan and Chinmayi.Devan atleast to me is a mini SPB . There is minimum usage of instruments. I think Rahman’s focus was to present a stylish rhythmic song with nice lyrics and he has done excatly that.

Mannipaaya (A. R. Rahman, Shreya Ghoshal)
This is the surprise package of the album and is pure poetry. This song would have been more appropriate for a Broadway musical than a conventional movie . The keyboard and piano along with the haunting voice of Shreya is pure magic. Shreya is one of the very few singers who is willing to go the extra mile to get the accent right.Rahman’s voice also blends perfectly. The unique instrumentation and music arrangements will please any music lover. As usual , typical of any Rahman song , this song will definitely grow on you. This is the best song of the album to me.

Hosanna(Vijay Prakash, Suzanne D’Mello, Blaaze)
Another song with ravishing musical arrangements. The haunting “Hossana” piece would have made Harris proud. Watch out for the transformation of this song from a soulful melody to a mix of pop and Hip Hop.Vijay is wonderful to the ear and Blazee completes the Hip Hop part. Suzanne’s powerful voice also blends nicely into the song. Get your dance shoes ready !!

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya(Karthik)
The title song is sung by the extremely talented Karthik. Passionate lyrics flow throughout the song and reverberate with the silky smooth guitar piece in the background.Karthik delivers a masterpiece with extreme control.Rahman has managed the flow of the song with excellent changes in pitch and Karthik is equal to the task.

Kannukkul Kannai(Naresh Iyer)
Naresh Iyer was missing in Rahman’s albums but he is back. This is the only fast paced song in the album but the overarching theme is still melody. The violin interludes are a masterpiece. It is clear that Rahman has worked hard on the sound mixing. The lyrics courtesy of Thamarai are still unadulterated , indicating that it is possible to create a song with heavy western influence with 100% Tamil Lyrics .This song would be a good reason to upgrade your speaker system !

Aaoromale(Alphons Joseph)
This is as close as you can get to listening to a country song in Tamil !! . The stringed guitar piece at the start is good enough for this song to be feature in the Country Music Awards.Alphons voice is perfect for this genre.

Rahman has focused on melody for this movie. Gautham Menon must have spent a lot of time with Rahman and it is very evident with the quality of the songs in the album. This will be new experience for the Tamil audience and I am convinced that they will embrace it.

This album is for the cosmopolitan music lover . A must buy !

  1. A great trend setting album from A.r.Rahman. Great review! Keep it up! A outstanding tamil composition which could take the tamil cinema to next level.

  2. Fantastic review…

Mostly what the man tries to accomplish, escapes the understanding of the normal listener, and they perceive it to be him losing touch…

He has reached a level where he can make the audience listen to his terms, rather than the other way around…

    Great album!

  3. mindblowing album ar rockss!! good review

  4. aaromale is my pick. stunning voice!

  5. i was expecting rehman to come up with such an album. He is still known for melodies more than all other extra variety he adds to. Amazing.. beautiful.. i fell in love :)

  6. All the songs are soothing melody and very good orchestration. If you listen the album you will feel new tune and sound. ARR Rocks! Jai ho!

  7. The songs are amazing…my fav Aromale and Anbil Avan.

  8. Hey…Its really soothing to read such a review:)…U have done a commendable job…kudos man…
I agree with you on the opinion that mannipaya is the best of this album…Not to leave out Aaromalae comes as close as possible in my list of best songs in this album…Also, i would say aaromalae is better than a country music and i call it a slow or soft rock, the first of its kind in tamil music…
Kannukkul Kannai—-What to say…Im out of adjectives…It has a very subtle track of Naresh singing, but the accompanying instruments, the loops and the synths make it awesome to listen..U r right in asking us to upgrade our music system…I should think of changin my sony 5000w 5.1 home theatre system to a 7.1 which should be able to channelize the music better:)….

Overall, this album is close to my heart…firstly for bringing very refreshing tunes to tamil music…secondly, for ARR…Man, he gives tunes that are always new and different from the rest…Long live ARR

  9. One more thing….For all those who keep saying they are not able to get the lyrics of ARRs music…Please change your music system which could read all the frequency levels…Choose a music system that could pick up a wide range of frequencies….Thats bcoz, believe it or not, ARRs songs test the best of the best music systems with their wide range of frequency levels….

  10. Thanks for the kind comments folks. I am glad you enjoyed reading my blog as much as you enjoyed the music !

  11. Nice review pal.. I liked the way u have analysed each and every song. usually people try to write the faults in the review to show the depth of their analysis. But, i really like the way u have penned. Every creation is beautiful, and u have taken care of it. I really appreciate tat frnd… Looking forward for more such reviews frm u.

Now to talk abt ARR composition… I am jus speechless. The tracks of vinnai thandi varuvaya will compel u to listen to it again and again. Aromale is my heart favorite…. Jus makes me float… The song has gotta light rockish essence, which makes it really nice. ARR has taken tamil music to a new level. ARR’s composition is way above awesomeness… I also like Hosana and Anbil avan. These tracks makes u feel fresh.

The quality of the song is so high, now we have to see how the visuals are going to synch to the greatness of these tracks. I am sure Goutham must have concentrated more this time while filming these numbers. Looking forward for the visuals of Aromale mainly. :)

  12. Forgot to say one thing frnds:

Wishing u all a very happy pongal… May there be happiness in ur lives… And ya, may u all get tickets for Aayirathil Oruvan for the first show. :)

    Take care pals

  13. Aaoromale !!! One of the best song in recent days … as everyone else … it has the blend of Rock and soothing tone by Alphons. It was refreshing and i felt good with so much of energy … :-)

    is mannippaayaa

  19. sir nice song but innum bettera venum nenga harris beat pananum.

  20. i liked this review – http://chiselandrock.blogspot.com/2010/01/music-vinnai-thandi-varuvaya.html

  21. Shitty review. Aaromale is not remotely related to country. It is a classic rock ballad along the lines of Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd. Clearly the pick of the album.

  22. @Naga P : I disagree. This song is more of a country rock song than a classic rock ballad. Go look it up in Wikipedia. At least I was discrete with my point of view.

  23. @Jayumon, I’m with you.. both are killing my work!!!! just amazing!!

  24. 12 inch subwoofers are great for Home Theatres because they generate a great deal of bass ,,

  25. I’m still learning from you, as I’m trying to reach my goals. I definitely liked reading all that is posted on your blog.Keep the information coming. I loved it!
